If you have a cost reimbursable contract or grant, it contains a clause that requires you to submit your actual indirect rates to the DCAA or NIH after the completion of each fiscal year. The ensuing audit is usually conducted as an on site visit by a DCAA auditor who asks for information (such as invoices and time cards for actual cost incurred for backup). The audit typically causes great concern for our clients.
